Erik Cannard, LMT
Thoughtful, Gentle, Effective
Hi. I’m Erik, an experienced Portland massage therapist offering Therapeutic Massage as well as CranioSacral therapy.
I offer both 60 and 90 minute sessions and use a wide range of techniques to tailor the treatment to the individual.
I have had the good fortune of working with a wide variety of people, including: those recovering from acute injuries, people managing chronic conditions, and people who just need help feeling better in their body. My intention is always to meet people where they are.
I accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards for payment. I am not able to bill any form of insurance at this time.
Please reach out to me with any questions about my work or with help scheduling an appointment.

My offerings
Therapeutic Massage
A massage with me uses techniques that help soften and release the fascia (connective tissue) throughout the body to improve circulation as well as relieve tension in muscle tissue. Sometimes this can involve pressure and feel deep, other times it can be very gentle. My approach is about finding the speed at which your body is going to move. I like to consider myself a helper as opposed to an instructor during treatment. I will often start with what people think of as traditional massage techniques but I like to blend these with other thoughtful forms of touch to get the maximum benefit from a session.
CranioSacral Therapy
I resonate really well with the theories and techniques espoused by Upledger CranioSacral Therapy (more info here). CranioSacral Therapy at its core uses a light touch and is intended to function as a guiding hand for the body to find its way to equilibrium by softening restrictions in the tissue surrounding the central nervous system. A typical session involving only CranioSacral therapy is done fully clothed and lying face up on the table. I offer this type of session on its own but I also incorporate many CranioSacral techniques into massage sessions when appropriate.
I believe that the overarching philosophy of helping the body find its own way to balance applies to all of the techniques I use. I’m not afraid to nudge things a bit when they really feel stuck but I rarely use a lot of pressure during treatment just for the sake of it. A number of people have lovingly called my treatments slow and sleepy. I like to think of my work as thoughtful, gentle, and effective.
